Background

As one of the world's leading robotic automation solution suppliers, our client was attempting to deliver an autonomous solution for box depalletization.

Box depalletization usually involves boxes in various colours being mixed together, and therefore, the precision in identifying and locating boxes is one of the key areas both our client and DaoAI team looked into in early project stage.

Challenge

When boxes in various colors are mixed together, it significantly increases the difficulty of identifying the type of each box. In addition, 5mm in bin-picking precision is required by the software to calculate the 3D coordinates of the each box's central point precisely, which makes a project substantially harder.

Solution

This may be handled by merging the DaoAI Vision Software with the DaoAI BP-L camera, as well as our proprietary Sparsely Aggregated Convolutional Networks method and Deep Learning on boxes' kind.

It is capable of mending a broken 3D image, as well as properly identifying and developing appropriate 3D postures for difficult tasks.

Result

The solution has been deployed on workstation for more than half a year without causing any issues. Fanuc has also reproduced our solution to their customers for 10 more units.
